Panel Two: All About Games

The video games industry is having an explosive year. The Nintendo DS and Wii have put to rest the notion that games consoles are the sole provenance of the young and male. ‘Casual’ games have become big business and ‘social gaming’ is next on the horizon. Guitar Hero and Rock Band point to a new model for the music industry. Hollywood is beginning to see blockbuster games as box office competition, while critics are for the first time reviewing games as art -- The New York Times hailed Grand Theft Auto IV as, ‘a violent, intelligent, profane, endearing, obnoxious, sly, richly textured and thoroughly compelling work of cultural satire disguised as fun’. Where are the next opportunities in this dynamic industry?

It is clear to all that recent economic events have made running business as usual an altogether more challenging affair. Executives from firms large and small have been reviewing what were originally robust financial foundations and sound business models and worrying what decisions need to be made to ensure their organisation will survive the crisis. This panel will explore prudent and rational options for not only surviving, but coming out on top:

 ·         How much can costs be cut and how deep you cut?

Panel Four : The Future of Mediatech M&A

Trade sales are by far the most common form of exit for Mediatech companies in both Europe and the US. Old Media companies like News Corp and Web giants like Microsoft, Google, Yahoo! and AOL have all been prolific acquirers of Mediatech ventures.

 ·         The M&A market has clearly slowed due to recent events, how long will it be before it picks back up again?

·         What missing pieces in their businesses are incumbents looking to fill through acquisitions?

·         What can companies do to shore up their exit strategy?
